One wash and it has started rustin

Rick - you purchased a carbon steel knife - these knives will rust and discolour due to the style of metal - its dosent effect the performance . The benefit is the edge they hold and the ease of sharpening. If you want a knife that dosent rust and stays shiney and silver a stainless blade is the way to go.
